Our plants in portrait - the privet as bonsai

Welcome to a new series in our Bonsai Blog!
With our plants in the portrait we present our favourite bonsai in detail.

The beginning makes the privet - or more specifically, the chinese privet or ligustrum sinensis.

Privet as bonsai

The Chinese privet is a great bonsai to get into the hobby. It is a very robust variety without particularly high demands. It also grows very quickly and can tolerate cuts without problems. In Rare Cases, privet-Bonsai even wear flowers or flowers. Little Fruit. All these qualities make him a great bonsai for beginners.

The Evergreen Privet is an Indoor Bonsai Tree. In Summer, it may be in a semi-shady place, but since it is not hardy, the chinese privet prefers a place in the apartment. It can, of course, be kept outside at a suitable location, but this site must be adapted to the requirements of the ligusters.

Here too, privet-Bonsai is enough when you get a half-shaded location. In these places privet thrive best. The midday is a little too strong for the small trees, rather they like to get some direct sunlight in the morning or evening.

Casting and fertilizer
Privet-Bonsai Do not have any special requirements regarding water and fertilizer. It is important to ensure that the substrate never completely dries. The privet usually complains about hanging, then with sloping leaves. We at boomki pour our privet on a daily basis with a little water, especially in the cold months, it is usually enough when the bonsai are poured every 2-3 days. As or filtered tap water, mineral water from the bottle or rain water can be used as a gießwasser.

Also in terms of fertilizer, privet, which are kept as bonsai, are very uncomplicated. During the period of growth, in spring to Autumn, some bonsai fertilizer should be added to the gießwasser. In Winter, this distance can be increased to 4-6 weeks without concern. Attention: too much nitrogen in the fertilizer can cause great celiac distances. We recommend that we use a bonsai fertilizer.

Days and design
Depending on the development of the privet -, a days is required about every 1-3 years. In this case, a root cut often makes sense, as the privet quickly forms many very fine roots.

The design of bonsai is always based on the existing trees. This is no different from the privet. In General, large design cuts should always be carried out, but best at the beginning of the growth phase. Smaller cuts to maintain the form, however, are possible throughout the year. Privet do not react squeamish to circumcisions, which is why they are well suited to learn this part of the hobby.
