Beginner Chawan Workshop: Handmade Ceramics

Make your own gift this festive season!! We now offer a course to introduce you to the art of working with clay.

During the course you will make your own Chawan teacups or sushi plates. Learn about the philosophies behind this ancient Japanese craft and watch a presentation about the interesting history and theory of this art form. Each participant will be able to experiment and create their own unique pieces.

We start with antique techniques like pinching, where the gesture of the pottery making transmits its vibration into the functional everyday use.

Next you can choose a glaze (color/finish) to be applied by our shop professional.  We will then bake them in our ceramic oven and participants will be able to collet the finished products 3-4 days later.
